SHE IS NOT A HOUSE
She Is Not A House pulls inspiration from the romanticization of the Victorian era, and the chilling political climate brought on by religious extremists today, and their intentions for women.
The archetypes portrayed are masked, implying that they could be any woman, yet she is no one. Patriarchal ideology has clearly defined gender roles throughout history, binding women to the domestic sphere, tying a woman’s worth to hearth and home. It continues to lurk close behind, with each new law and legislative act to hinder our freedoms, silence our voices, and control our futures, all under the guise of protection.
She Is Not A House is a longing and sadness for wanting more. It is a push and pull. The desire for freedom over the restraints and shackles of knowing one’s place. It is the struggle to move forward against the tide of the current.
